JoAnn Flett, Chair of the Board


JoAnn Flett is a Lecturer in Management and directs the MBA in Economic Development at Eastern University. She teaches courses in Business Ethics, Social Entrepreneurship, and Managerial Accounting. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Ms. Flett has over 20 years of accounting and finance experience. She has held senior accounting and management positions for several organizations including: Delaware County Community College, Dunwoody Village, Pura Vida Coffee, Agent General for Queensland (London, UK), Bettinger Mifflin Rich CPA Group, and Spieker Properties. Ms. Flett’s research focuses on the role of business in society. She is interested in business that combines social mission and market activities to bring about societal change for ‘people at the base of the pyramid’ (BoP). Thanks to the field of Social Entrepreneurship, there is now a whole body of research exploring how business can be used to address societal problems.

Doug Balfour, President

Doug Balfour has over 30 years of experience in leadership, organizational development and community development across a range of sectors. Doug currently leads Geneva Global, a philanthropic consulting firm specializing in international development, global health, and poverty solutions. Since September 2008, when Doug became the owner and Chief Executive Officer, Geneva Global has seen tremendous changes leading to exciting new projects, sustainability and growth. Prior to joining Geneva Global, Doug was Executive Director of London, UK-based Integral, a global alliance of 12 relief and development agencies. He previously served for 9 years as General Director of Tearfund, the United Kingdom’s sixth-largest aid agency, based in London. At Tearfund, he led a multinational staff of more than 650 people, implementing advocacy, relief and development programs through 300 partners in 70 countries. He studied geology at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and earned a master’s in business administration from the Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield, United Kingdom.

Karen Robinson, Treasurer


Karen Robinson brings more than two decades of experience in finance and human resources management to the role of Treasurer for Capital for Good. Karen provides leadership and strategic development to Geneva Global, a philanthropic consulting firm, in the role of Chief Financial Officer. During her tenure, Karen has overseen Geneva Global’s finances, human resources and operations, creating stability and security for an established, yet newly owned and re-organized, small business. Prior to joining Geneva, Karen served as Vice President of Finance and Human Resources for Charlotte, North Carolina based Global Linking Solutions, Inc. (GLS) a data network managed services provider. At GLS, Karen oversaw all aspects of finance, accounting, banking, insurance, legal and human resources for the rapidly growing company. Karen also worked for more than a decade in commercial banking, focusing on financial audit and commercial lending to corporate, trade finance, asset based and small business clients. Karen holds an MBA from Villanova University in Pennsylvania and a BS in Accounting from the University of Richmond.


Ravi Bala, Board Member

Ravi Bala is the COO at HealthSignals, LLC a leader in technology solutions for better senior living. He is also founder and 8thLevel Pawn at 8th Square Solutions. He is a senior technology marketing and operations executive with extensive experience as an entrepreneurial COO. An innovator and an expert in mobile health and digital strategy, he has a successful track record of creating and managing teams of independent thinkers. He is an ardent fan of disruptive business models. In keeping with his heritage as a technology geek, he stays ahead of market and technology trends. In his copious free time, he creates and actively manages online community initiatives in education and youth development. He is also a Board member of the Startup Corps – Bringing the Entrepreneurship Experience to Teens and a mentor to Temple and Drexel university student entrepreneurs. He wants to be bracketed by the terms “Compassionate Service” and “Fanatical Implementation of Common Sense”. He currently teaches a course in Digital Business Strategy at the Temple Fox School of Business.

Madeleine Champion, Board Member

Madeleine Champion is CEO of Champion Global Advisors, LLC, a consulting firm providing advisory on expansion into emerging markets. Madeleine serves as a director on the board of Fresh Del Monte Produce, Inc; she is a former director of Citizens Republic Bancorp (CRBC); she was elected to CRBC by the US Treasury under their Capital Purchase Program. She has more than 25 years of leadership experience in financial services, specializing in emerging markets, including responsibilities at JPMorgan Chase, Banc One Capital Markets, CoreStates and Fidelity Bank. Fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese, Madeleine is a graduate of the London School of Economics, with an MA from University College, London, and an MBA from the Wharton Business School. She has served on various boards, including as President of the Bankers’ Association for Finance and Trade and of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, and Commissioner on the board of the Port of Philadelphia and Camden; she is a Trustee of the Center for Economic Development.

Leslie Swope, Board Member

Leslie Swope has over thirty years of experience in marketing, sales and finance in the pharmaceutical, consulting, cable and chemical industries. Her most recent experience as a global Marketing Director in Pharmaceuticals includes focusing on emerging brands and in line products across the world. She has led cross functional teams as well as worked collaboratively with alliances to ensure alignment. She brings strong leadership skills in product management, brand communications and market research with focus on innovation and results. Leslie holds a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Eileen Wilhem, Board Member

Eileen Wilhem is President of Pinnacle Philanthropy Partners, a consulting firm dedicated to meeting the philanthropic needs of financial institutions, foundations and philanthropists. Previously, she was Managing Director at Bank of America where she was responsible for service, strategy, products, and national practice for Philanthropic Management. Eileen has over 40 years’ experience in the foundation, endowment, planned giving, and charitable trust administration and taxation fields. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Robert Morris University, and holds additional degrees from the National Trust School and National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. Eileen is on the National Advisory Board of Growth Philanthropy Network. She was a Senior Fellow at The Philanthropic Initiative, a trustee and chair of the Finance Committee of The American College, Executive Council member, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Committee Member of New Ventures in Philanthropy, Treasurer and board member of the Forum of Regional Association of Grant Makers.
